As AI & Data Governance and Trust Manager you will be the operational backbone of responsible AI and Data management within the AI & Data Center of Excellence. In this role you ensure that AI systems and data assets are deployed, managed, and governed in compliance with regulatory requirements, ethical standards, and enterprise risk frameworks.

This position focuses on building and operationalizing governance structures that enable trust, transparency, and accountability across the Data Lifecycle - from collection and storage to processing, sharing, retention, and disposal. As the specialist you will work closely with the AI Solutions Architect to embed compliance guardrails into technical patterns and with the AI & Data Transformation Lead to integrate governance into the organization's data culture.

Your responsibilities will include

AI Governance & Risk Management

  • Design and maintain the AI Risk Registry, classifying AI systems by risk tier (EU AI Act alignment).
  • Define approval workflows, documentation requirements, and lifecycle checkpoints for AI initiatives.
  • Monitor AI model performance for drift, fairness, and compliance post-deployment.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for AI-related regulatory inquiries and audits.
  • Conduct AI ethics and bias assessments in collaboration with technical teams.

Data Governance & Lifecycle Management

  • Operationalize the Data Governance Council, including agenda setting, decision tracking, and stakeholder coordination.
  • Define and maintain Critical Data Element (CDE) definitions, ownership, and quality baselines.
  • Support Master Data Management (MDM) pilot initiatives with governance frameworks and data stewardship models.
  • Define governance requirements for metadata, cataloging, and data quality tooling; partner with Data Engineering/IT on platform ownership and operations.
  • Establish data retention, archival, and disposal policies aligned with GDPR and enterprise compliance standards.
  • Collaborate with IT and Security teams to ensure data access controls, encryption, and audit trails are in place.

Policy Development & Compliance

  • Draft, review, and maintain AI and Data policies, standards, and procedures, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements (EU AI Act, GDPR, industry-specific mandates).
  • Conduct compliance gap assessments and recommend remediation plans.
  • Provide governance training and awareness programs for business and technical stakeholders.
  • Maintain a governance knowledge base and decision log for transparency and auditability.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with the AI Solutions Architect to validate that technical designs meet governance and compliance requirements.
  • Work with the AI & Data Transformation Lead to embed AI & Data governance frameworks into capability-building programs and community initiatives.
  • Collaborate with Legal and Information Security teams to ensure alignment on risk management and regulatory obligations.
  • Support Value Streams and Support Functions with advisory for AI and Data governance.
  • Engage with external auditors, regulators, and industry bodies as AI and Data governance subject matter expert.

Success in this role means:

  • Governance frameworks adopted across AI and data initiatives
  • Audit-ready compliance evidence and risk posture
  • Reduced delivery friction through clear decision rights and guardrails
  • Measurable improvement in data quality for Critical Data Elements
  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, or Business Administration (Advanced degrees in Ethics, Risk Management, or Regulatory Compliance are highly valued)
  • Experience: Essential experience includes 5+ years in Data Management, Data Governance, or Information Risk roles, with a proven track record of operationalizing enterprise-wide governance frameworks
  • Skills: The role requires a rare blend of technical literacy and regulatory fluency. Necessary skills include
    • the ability to translate complex regulations into actionable business policies,
    • expertise in Master Data Management (MDM) and Critical Data Element (CDE) definition
    • strong proficiency in risk classification methodologies.
  • Interpersonally: You possess superior collaborative skills to partner with Solutions Architects and Legal teams, and the executive presence to act as a subject matter expert during audits and regulatory inquiries.
  • Languages: Professional proficiency in English required; Italian and/or additional European languages are a plus.
